Girl undergraduate becomes VP of U.S. multinational

Wu Yingying, a 21-year-old university student, has become Asia operations vice president of TopCoder, a U.S. based multinational online programming company.

Wu, who entered Beijing Normal University in 2003, will oversee and manage TopCoder business relationships and will build TopCoder’s market presence and member enrollment throughout the greater China and Asia region.

TopCoder is a Connecticut-based company that develops online competition programming and skills assessment software.

Wu holds three Chinese patents for her 100-odd inventions, including the OPEN indexing technology and dynamic counter cachet technology that won her an innovation prize from the Ministry of Education this year.

In 2005, she led a university team to win second place at the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest.

She then went to Stanford University as a visiting student and impressed TopCoder senior management with her outstanding academic record.

The company decided to name her Asia operations vice president in October.

Wu said she will continue her scientific research while focusing on artificial intelligence when working for the company.
